A Digital Harvest
Farmers in China are finding new ways to reach customers – with help from mobile technology
Farmers are amongst those making the most out of the current boom in online live-selling in China, bouncing back from COVID-19 and finding new customers across the country by embracing new technology.
'During the COVID outbreak, my vegetables didn't sell well. With online sales, it's easier', says Mrs Xiao, a pumpkin farmer. She can sell 10 times more produce online than at the market. Zhang Keke, a live seller, takes a commission on each sale made during the 2 hour livestream. 'I am a bridge between the city and the country', she says. The practice, encouraged by the government, is growing rapidly across all sectors.
