A new kind of construction is taking off in the U.S. Mass timber can replace steel and concrete in large buildings and proponents say it's greener and faster to build with. Is this the future of green building?
Large buildings are typically built out of steel and concrete. But in the U.S., a new trend is taking off: building with timber. One advantage to building out of timber is 'the sustainability aspect', says David Corr, referring to the high emissions involved in production of traditional materials. But some are skeptical. 'Is there enough forested area to both sustain mass building and protect our forests?', asks climate policy expert Kirin Kennedy.
