Caught in the Crossfire
The plight of Muslims in Kashmir
This report tells the plight of Muslim Kashmiris living in a region torn apart by war and human rights abuses. Discontent in Indian-occupied Kashmir erupted into full-scale rebellion in 1989 and since then the Indian army has been attempting to crush the resistance by the most brutal means. The invisible nature of the underground movement means suspects are chosen almost arbitrarily. A young man testifies that he has been arrested and tortured by the Indian authorities. We also see the growth of Indian-sponsored counter-insurgency - a group of former militant Kashmiri separatists who are now fighting on the same side as the Indian Authorities.
