Lessons in Dissent
Inside the nucleus of the Umbrella Protests
In 2012 schoolboy Joshua Wong became the face of pro-Democracy protests in Hong Kong. As he is released from jail and calls for Carrie Lam's resignation, we revisit his David and Goliath struggle as a protest leader.
The 15-year-old schoolboy launched a campaign group, Scholarism, in an attempt to force the government to back down on the introduction of National Education. He took to the streets, leading fellow school activists in chants; "I want independent thinking, not brainwashing". Filmed over 18 months, this visceral film charts his rise to notoriety and epic struggle to be heard.
