Director's Statement
Six Inches of Soil tells the inspiring story of young British farmers standing up against the industrial food system and transforming the way they produce food - to heal the soil, our health and provide for local communities.
I wanted to tell this story because I felt inspired. Seeing what’s possible on a farm, the amazing folks who grow our food, nurture the soil and are feeding the roots of a food and farming revolution. I used to feel quite sad and indifferent about society’s response to climate change, but through experiencing regenerative agriculture, I found hope.
Six Inches of Soil weaves together real human stories of brave new farmers trying to change a system within the wider social and environmental issues we need to address. The story of food, farming and connection to nature is a story we can all relate to, and I’m hopeful that audiences will see the film and see that change is possible.
Our vision for the film’s impact campaign is to inspire farmers with the confidence to adopt regenerative farming approaches; give consumers the impetus to rethink their food choices; and ultimately create a groundswell of public opinion leading to policy change, support and funding for a British regenerative farming and agro-ecological revolution.
